Daniel Collins, Ph.D.
Academic Advisor, GreenWingConservancy
Dr. Daniel Collins serves as an Academic Advisor to GreenWing Conservancy, providing expertise in wildlife population dynamics, migratory bird ecology, and large-scale monitoring science. He is an Associate Professor at Sul Ross State University and a Senior Research Scientist at the Borderlands Research Institute, where his work focuses on how applied research and survey systems inform conservation and management decisions.
With 17 years at the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, including service as Migratory Game Bird Coordinator in the Southwest Region, Dr. Collins helped guide monitoring and management strategies across the Central and Pacific Flyways. His work has included species such as sandhill cranes, mottled ducks, northern pintail, redhead ducks, snowy plovers, and long-billed curlews.
An author of more than 45 peer-reviewed publications and recipient of over $10 million in research funding, Dr. Collins brings deep experience in population modeling, survey design, and applied wildlife science. As an advisor, he strengthens the Conservancy’s commitment to rigorous, data-driven conservation grounded in sound ecological and statistical principles.
