Dr. Gregory A. Smith serves as the Academic Advisor for the conservancy, bringing a strong background in wildlife ecology, conservation biology, and applied research to the organization. He is an Associate Professor in the Department of Biological Sciences at Kent State University’s Stark Campus, where he studies how human driven changes to landscapes influence wildlife populations and ecological communities. His work integrates ecological field research with real world management applications, creating a bridge between science and on the ground conservation practices.

Dr. Smith’s research focuses on terrestrial vertebrates, with projects involving birds and mammals, drone-based wildlife surveys, citizen science platforms, and the use of modern technology to support wildlife monitoring. His efforts aim to improve conservation decision making and expand tools available to wildlife managers. He also teaches a broad range of courses including Conservation Biology, Wildlife Resources, Biological Diversity, and Vertebrate Zoology, helping prepare the next generation of scientists and conservation

professionals.

He has served in multiple leadership roles within the academic community, including Faculty Senate service, biological sciences coordination, and editorial positions with scientific journals. Across his career, he has contributed to numerous professional organizations and presented research at national conferences, reinforcing his standing as a respected scholar in the fields of ecology and wildlife conservation.

As Academic Advisor to the conservancy, Dr. Smith provides scientific guidance, supports research planning, and ensures that all conservation initiatives are grounded in sound ecological principles. His expertise strengthens the conservancy’s mission by aligning practical conservation efforts with current scientific understanding.
