Jason Lee serves as Treasurer for the Conservancy and brings a lifelong commitment to science education conservation and community engagement. A Cortland resident Jason is a science teacher at Howland High School where he has spent more than sixteen years fostering curiosity and environmental stewardship among his students. Prior to joining Howland he taught at Maplewood Schools and has devoted his career to hands on experiential learning.
In addition to his classroom work Jason serves as a seasonal naturalist at Mosquito Lake State Park where he has been leading educational programming since April 2022. In this role he designs and delivers a wide array of public programs including guided nature hikes archery and BB gun classes kayaking pontoon boat rides ice fishing outdoor cooking and youth focused conservation events. His work emphasizes direct connection with nature and making outdoor education accessible to people of all ages and backgrounds.
Jason holds both bachelor’s and master’s degrees in biology and is currently completing a master’s degree in environmental science at Youngstown State University. His academic background combined with his teaching experience allows him to translate complex scientific concepts into engaging real world experiences. He is especially passionate about outdoor learning believing that authentic experiences outside the classroom inspire deeper understanding and long term conservation ethics.
A strong advocate for youth engagement Jason also coordinates educational field trips for high school college students and graduates across the United States and internationally. These trips have included Costa Rica the Grand Canyon China and Germany where students explored ecology geology sustainability and cultural approaches to conservation. Many participants have gone on to pursue environmental science and volunteer service as a result of these experiences. Jason believes these opportunities open doors for students who might not otherwise have access to travel or field based science education.
Within his naturalist role Jason works closely with the Friends of Mosquito Lake State Park the Army Corps of Engineers and community organizations to expand programming and infrastructure. He has been instrumental in supporting the development of year round nature education spaces including cabins that will function as winter nature centers for youth programming. He is also pursuing permits to expand the use of live birds in educational outreach at the park.
Jason’s broader service reflects his commitment to conservation at the local and regional level. He serves as a board member for the Trumbull County Soil and Water Conservation District providing him with a valuable perspective on land use water quality and habitat management. He is also active as a basketball coach at Mathews Schools a cross country coach at Howland Middle School and advisor to the Howland High School Science Club.
As Treasurer Jason brings strong organizational skills fiscal responsibility and a conservation focused mindset to the Conservancy’s leadership. His ability to bridge education resource management and public engagement helps ensure the Conservancy’s mission is both financially sound and deeply connected to the community it serves.
